The latest figures from the BC Coroners Service show 20 people have died from illicit drug overdoses this year in Vernon.
That is to the end of September, and compares to 23 deaths in the city all of last year
The provincial number is 1,143, which is very close to the totals from a year ago.
Kelowna has had 44 fatal overdoses, and Kamloops has had 32.
The Coroner’s Service says fentanyl was detected in 77 per cent of the fatal cases, with cocaine at 48 per cent, and meth at 32 per cent.
