Dogs are not exactly known for having sweet-smelling breath – but apparently there are some people trying to use human toothpaste to remedy the issue.
Not a good idea.
The RSPCA in the U.K. conducted a survey and found nearly eight percent of dog owners reported they had tried to brush their dog’s teeth with human toothpaste to freshen the animal’s breath. The organization is now warning that fluoride, and the artificial sweet xylitol sometimes found in human toothpaste, could prove toxic to dogs if swallowed.
The Kennel Club advises pet owners to brush their dog’s teeth daily using a toothpaste designed specifically for dogs to maintain their pet’s dental health.
