Curling isn’t traditionally viewed as a rowdy sport…..but apparently, it CAN be.
Organizers of the Red Deer Curling Classic were forced to kick an entire curling team out of the tournament this past weekend, as the players were simply way too drunk. The Curling Club fielded multiple complaints about the team, skipped by Jamie Koe, and their behavior, resulting in their ejection from the rink and the event.
The incident is making for international headlines because the team included Ryan Fry, who was a member of Canada’s 2014 Olympic Gold medal-winning squad. According to numerous sources, Fry was “the biggest problem”, and didn’t even play in Saturday night’s game because he was too inebriated, leaving his three wobbling teammates to play a man short.
Wade Thurber, facility manager at the Red Deer Curling Centre, said of the group, “they were extremely drunk and breaking brooms and swearing and just unacceptable behavior”. The team has been banned from further events at the venue, but Thurber is now admitting that he might re-consider that decision. Fry has since apologized for both the team and his own personal actions. ~ Jason
