The City of Vernon recently signed a new deal with its firefighters — and next up will be its civic workers.
About 240 members of CUPE local 626 work for the City in various positions.
A five year deal signed back in 2014 expires at the end of this month
City spokesman Nick Nilsen says negotiations will likely get underway early next month.
“It is common for both sides to agree to continue the existing contract until a new agreement is reached, at which time wages are back-paid to the start of the new contract term,” says Nilsen.
The workers got an 8.5% wage hike over the term of the last deal.
