Vernon had about a dozen pot shops before recreational cannabis became legalized — but so far, there isn’t as much interest in legal retail outlets.
City staff say they have received four applications since city council approved a new bylaw this month allowing the shops in mostly commercial zones.
Part of it could be the city fees, which are $5,000 for the application, and $2,000 a year to renew.
That’s in addition to the $7,500 provincial licensing fee.
Each application will have to city and provincial approval before it can proceed.
Kelowna has had about 40 applications from potential cannabis retailers.
