Vernon RCMP say they have seen a significant increase in tool thefts over the past few months.
They are reminding people who work with tools to lock up items that must remain on construction sites.
Police responded to a break and enter in progress at a home under construction on Kestrel Place in the Adventure Bay area of Vernon, just before midnight Tuesday.
“Multiple units responded to the area after it was reported the suspects were still inside the home that is still under construction. Once on scene, officers found the property vacant,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.
No suspects were found, but a stolen vehicle associated to the break and enter, which contained a firearm, was recovered.
“It is obvious the target of this break and enter were the tools housed within the home under construction, however given a firearm is believed to be associated to this event, it is important that if residents or contractors come across a break and enter to leave the property immediately and call 911,” says Brett.
Brett says Mounties continue to investigate the incident.
